How to Correct Body Postures During Pregnancy? - Part 2

How to stand and walk?

During pregnancy, most women tend to bend the back backwards while standing up as their abdomens enlarge gradually. Therefore, this posture pushes the enlarged abdomen forwards and strains the muscles of the back. Keeping the back and the shoulders straight while standing up helps reduce the back pain. It is better to maintain this erect posture and swing your hands well, when you walk as well. You should look forward and do not focus on the ground while walking, because this helps you to keep up your posture.


How to sit?

When you sit, keep your back straight. Your hip and knees should be at the same level while keeping the knees and the ankles in a vertical line. This body posture reduces the extra weight on your back. When you sit and work at a table, select a suitable table, which allows you to maintain your back straight. Do not bend forwards or backwards. Keep and move your hands comfortably.

If you work at a table while standing up, you should maintain the back straight. Therefore, you should select a table with a sufficient height. When you do any work, do not forget to keep up this posture. However, do not avoid your daily routines.


How to lift or pick up something?

If you need to pick up or lift something from the floor, bend your hip and knees to maintain the back straight. Bending the back forwards can strain the muscles of your back. Avoid lifting weights as much as possible, if you have back pain. If you cannot lift a weight comfortably, do not try to lift alone. You can ask for help from others.

Correct body postures help avoid straining the muscles of your back. Therefore, they minimise the back pain during pregnancy. You can stand in front of the mirror and practise healthy postures and body movements. Relax your back and the abdomen while pulling the shoulders and the abdomen back to the correct position. Some women use maternity belts to correct and keep up the body posture, when they walk.
